ollie help?

i know how to do a ollie i know all the steps, but every time im in the air the back nose stays on the ground, i jump as high as i can which is like 2ft high, i pop it as hard as i can and i slide my foot up to make it land flat, the goddam back nose only gets off the ground like 2 centimeters!!!!
ohh, and im a beginner, but do i have to wair a helmet at all times when im skateboarding???

There are 3 steps and 2 motions. Step 1 is slamming your back foot down. Step to is to slide your front foot and jump with your back foot at the same time. Your probably not sliding your foot and jumping with your back foot simultaneously. Just keep practicing and trying different routes of going about it but it sounds like that is the problem.
