Where did the brand name "BILLABONG" for clothes come from - and what does it mean??

I have seen many womens tee-shirts for sale with "Billabong" on them - and although I really like some of these shirts -(the designs and colors can be cool!) -I hesitate to purchase them because of the name "Billabong" and that I do not know what that name means - or where it came from.........anyone?

The company is located in South Africa. As far as I know, they started off in the town of Jeffrey's Bay, a popular surf spot.
