Is it a fashion faux pas to wear a navy suit with a black trench coat or car coat?

I ask because of the whole "don't wear black and blue together" fashion rule I always hear about.

people only say that because they are both dark colors but it may look good to wear them together so if you are comfortable with it then go for it :)
