Steel Toe Motorcycle Boots?

I am looking to learn to ride a motorcycle and have decided to take a MSF course. One of the requirements is to have something that covers your ankle. I have looked at motorcycle boots but don't really like them, so I have decided to get a pair of regular work boots. Would you recommend getting boots with a steel toe (any advantages or disadvantages)? If you are an experienced rider could you please help me out. Also open to suggestions for specific boots. Thanks.
